Sherburne SWCD will provide 500 Nitrate well testing kits to interested residents of Clear Lake and Haven township at no cost to the resident, focusing first on wells in the 2014 dataset and expanding to additional wells within those townships.
Please reply by January 9th if interested in receiving a Nitrate test kit. We will have multiple distribution and pick up opportunities. You will be required to share the results of your water test with the Sherburne Soil and Water Conservation District however your address will not be publicly shared.
For more information on this project or questions about testing please contact Miranda Wagner at 763-220-3434 ext 105 or [email protected] Updated Nitrate test results will determine whether groundwater quality has improved or if additional best management practices are needed to address potential contamination concerns. The results will also help guide future groundwater protection efforts and serve as a resource for future grant opportunities. This project is sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).

Nitrate Information
Nitrate is a naturally occurring, water soluble molecule that is made up of nitrogen and oxygen. Although nitrate occurs in nature, it can also originate from sources such as fertilizer, animal manure, and human waste. Nitrate can be a cause of concern and risk to human health at elevated levels of concentrations. The Minnesota Department of Health has established a Health Risk Limit of 10 mg/L Nitrate for private drinking water wells in Minnesota. |
