Funding Available for Private Well Testing for Sherburne County Residents
The Sherburne Soil and Water Conservation District will have Private Well Testing assistance beginning in December of 2023. There will be limited funding available for residents to receive cost assistance for comprehensive well testing. Comprehensive well testing will include at a minimum: Coliform Bacteria, Nitrates, Arsenic, and Lead from a certified water testing lab. Financial assistance will be offered at 50% for one test per residence, not to exceed $100. This is a reimbursement program. Tests are only eligible after a board approved agreement. The private well testing assistance program is in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Health.
A completed application signed by the landowner and the District must be on file prior to testing; do not get your water tested prior to receiving an approved and signed agreement as it will not be eligible for cost share. The first round of applications will be reviewed December 6th. Well testing for wells eligible for cost sharing must be located within Sherburne County. First priority will be given to wells located within a delineated Well Head Protection area. Well water testing must be performed by a Certified Water Testing Lab for at least arsenic, lead, nitrates, and bacteria coliform. Please follow the specific water collection guidelines from the chosen certified lab. Click here for a list of certified water testing labs. One water test per parcel is eligible for funding. The well being tested must be used currently for drinking water. Water testing required by the State or County is not eligible for cost share assistance. Water testing labs and/or other parties whose services will be required to carry out the terms of this agreement will not be deemed employees, contractors, or agents of the State, Sherburne County, or the District. This agreement, when approved by the District, will remain in effect unless cancelled by mutual agreement, except that if the well testing has not been completed by 3/1/2024, this agreement will be automatically terminated on this date unless the agreement is amended by mutual consent to reschedule the work. The landowner is responsible for making full payment to the water testing lab. The District will reimburse the landowner for the amount to be cost-shared after receiving copies of the paid invoice and list of itemized costs. |
